Sure seems to be a large number of people who view gay marriage (or, gay relationships of anykind) as a dire threat to civilization. The number one reason cited for denying marriage rights to gay couples is that it would be "bad for the children". How it would be bad is never explained.
If society really cared about "the children", then society would make an effort to dissuade unsuitable people from breeding. To kick off my "this makes my point" list, we journey to Kansas City, KS (not too far from the Westboro Baptist Church of godhatesfags.com fame) to read about a 42-year-old new (unemployed) dad accused of assaulting his 6-week-old son because he wouldn't stop crying.
The baby's mother was at work at the time of the assault (which occurred on Friday). They didn't take the kid to the hospital until the following Tuesday. The baby is in serious condition with a broken leg, three broken ribs, and bruises front and back.
What a guy.

Jonathan Rauch make a case for conservative support for gay marriage in this article... he says that supporters of marriage should be doing is setting up an assortment of alternatives nor should they be telling gay couples to "shack up".
They start earlier and earlier... and quit later and later. A 75 year-old man is in jail on charges he impregnated a 10 year-old girl. He thinks he should get a break - he claims she enticed him,
Be careful where you step... this inmate died after slipping on his own, er, prairie muffin.
Is it global warming or cooling? Andrew Sullivan provides this link to an article published in 1975 in Newsweek taking us to task for not preparing for the big chill.

Welfare-to-work moms face a wide array of new problems (not the least of which is not having the sense to not have kids they can't raise) according to this article in the Kansas City Star. There's no doubt that some of these women and their kids are having a rough time. The reason this ticks me off is because the tone of these articles is alway passive: these kids just appeared out of nowhere to burden these otherwise virtuous women who, on their own, would act responsibly.
Bigoted cat commits hate crime. Some character (from California - what a surprise) is claiming that an attack by a cat in a library on his dog was a hate crime. The cat is black and white so race may not be an issue... nor, says the plaintiff, is money... he simply wants the $1.5 million to educate the public about the legal rights of people with "hidden disabilities". Other than stupid, I wonder what the hidden disability is.
Overheated: Robert F Kennedy Junior out to show that he's an idiot... speaking in Iowa about hog farming states that "The only way for corporations to make money is by cheating and breaking the law every single day". Of course one has to wonder how people like the Kennedys, who produce nothing but drivel like this, make their money. Oh, at the same location Kennedy said that loarge scale hog producers are a bigger threat to the United States and US democracy than Osama bin Laden. Thanks to overlawyered.com point this out in the Des Moines Register.

"In most of the major newspapers in America and abroad, the key word to describe president Bush's recent Middle East policy has been 'reversal'...Not to put too fine a point on it, but this is twaddle." Andrew Sullivan speculates that the truth behind the US stance towards Israel in the last few weeks is designed to further the war on terrorism and far less "anti-Israel" than meets the eye.
Mark Steyn with a barn-burner of an article on the Middle East. Among other things, he wonders whether world opinion that Israel's response has been "disproportionate" would vanish if, instead of sending in uniformed troops, Sharon would have responded by "fishing some girl out of her Home Ec class at Tel Aviv High, loading her blouse with Semtex, and pointing her in the direction of the nearest Ramallah pizzeria to blow the legs off Palestinian grannies".
Matt Drudge reports that the Florida GOP has bought Alec Baldwin a one-way bus ticket to Canada. He won't go, of course (Alec Baldwin ride a bus with common folk?). They should have rounded up the money to buy him a first class, one-way airline ticket to the Worker's Paradise that is Cuba.
Speaking of proud fathers... these men "are both good, community-minded men who made some bad decisions in a heated moment". I guess times have changed when good , community-minded men will whack each other with baseball bats over Little League.

A sick culture - a proud father participating in an anti-Israel (what other kind is there) rally has his pride and joy dressed up as a little suicide bomber complete with darling little toy dynamite sticks. Is it any wonder that the Arab world is such a wretched place?
You have a wreck pulling a U-Haul trailer... you've been smoking pot... so who's fault is it? Your Firestone tires? Ford? U-Haul? Well, it's certainly not your fault so you sue everyone in sight. Of course, if any of the defendants mention the pot use, the judge declares a mistrial. From overlawyered.com.

Lutheran Minister Arrested On Charges Of Boring Young Children
PERU, IL— St. Luke's Lutheran Church was rocked by scandal Tuesday, when Rev. Bob Tillich, the church's pastor of 12 years, was arrested on suspicion of boring as many as 23 children within the congregation. "Reverend Bob always seemed like the sweetest man," parishioner Vera Crandall said following the arrest. "When my son said he made him watch three 1975 filmstrips about the suffering of Job, I was shocked." In the wake of the arrest, seven former Sunday-school students, dating as far back as 1989, have stepped forward with charges that Tillich subjected them to inappropriately tedious parables.

ST-ST-STOP! I know this is insensitive but here's a guy in the UK who was turned down for a job as a driving instructor because of his stutter. He's giving lessons for free, however.
The most asinine person in Congress: it looks like Maxine Waters will have to do better if she wants to hold on to the Biggest Dumb-Ass in Congress award. This episode lands Cynthia McKinney the award by acclimation. Jonah Goldberg does his usual fine (and funny) job of citing the idiocy here.
Can't we all just get along? An American Jew is stunned-gunned in that hotbed of tolerance and diversity: Sacramento, CA.
Arafat another George Washington? The Intifada another 1776? Victor Davis Hanson says the world is nuts.
If defending your country makes you a war criminal... how soon until Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld are hauled before the International Criminal Court?
Paranoid and stupid - and getting the big bucks as a Congressman. Neal Boortz tells us that Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) is catching some heat (scroll down to "Georgia's Embarassment") about her assertion (in Berkeley - naturally) that President Bush knew that the 9-11 attacks were coming but did nothing so that his buddies could profit. Her back-pedaling is knee-jerk Democratic rhetoric.

The "axis of pals" - our friends the Saudis. Mark Steyn explains why the time to crush the Palestinian uprising is now.
Ten ways to love Arafat... includes the 1960 headline in a Suadi-run paper: "Arrest Of Eichmann, Who Had The Honor Of Killing Six Million Jews". Remember - Islam means peace.
Another day at the airport - a litany of goofiness.
What we need is more immigration - especially people who learn how to be "victims". Oh, no! Hear comes gym suit Al.
Thomas Sowell wonders why it is that we are fighting an all out war on terrorism, we want the Israelis to go at it halfway.
Was Hitler simply ahead of his time? It sure looks like targeting Jews is coming back into vogue. And in France, natch.
Welcome to my humble attempt at a blog. I will update it as I feel like it. The intent is to post article and the occasional thought on things that interest or disgust me. Thanks.
